Legacy projects during your conference – Rotterdam Collaboration for Change Framework. Together with our clients, we develop legacy projects to create more impact for the city during the conference.

Rotterdam’s ambition and desire for conferences to leave a legacy in our city goes beyond the Rotterdam Collaboration for Change framework. Rotterdam has a long tradition of working together to find solutions to societal challenges. This is an ecosystem that keeps pace with Rotterdam’s rapid evolution, to better coordinate the efforts of the local government and other stakeholders.

De Doelen actively strives to limit the environmental impact of its business activities. For example, many energy-saving measures were implemented during the renovation of the Grote Zaal in 2009. But attention to the environment is a continuous process and encompasses the entire business operations; from waste separation to office paper. De Doelen takes its social responsibility seriously when it comes to the environment.

green biodiverse roof

Since 2022, our Green Roof has been collecting rainwater during heavy rain showers and contributing to cooling when it is hot. The roof is home to 84 species of native herbs, bulbs, ornamental grasses, plants and shrubs. There are five insect hotels and the vegetation attracts bees, butterflies and birds. In this way, the greenery contributes to more biodiversity in the city.

The flat roof of de Doelen is approximately 2,580 m2 and is covered with a wide variety of greenery. There is a water storage system with a capacity of 300 m³, which ensures water collection. A system with crates has been installed under the vegetation, in which rainwater is stored. The water is drained during rain showers and used during dry periods to provide the vegetation on the roof with water. In this way, we are preparing the city for the changing climate and ensuring sustainable water management.

social(ly) involvement

De Doelen Keuken is a training restaurant in collaboration with Zadkine Hospitality College. Students follow various work-study programs in the kitchen and service. This way, students are well-trained, you can eat well and together we make the city a little more hospitable! De Doelen Keuken will be open from Friday, November 8, 2024.

education and participation

At de Doelen, we believe in the transformative power of education. That is why we continuously develop education and participation projects that have a lasting impact on individuals and communities. With an inclusive and interactive music program in various genres, especially for children and young people, we actively involve this youngest target group in our programs and introduce them to music and art in the broadest sense of the word.

talentdevelopment

With a view to the future of music and Rotterdam as a city of music, we see talent development as an important task of de Doelen. Through various programs such as The Jazz Corner, Het Nieuwe Nu YOUNG and talent breaks, we offer a stage to emerging talent. With these programs, we create a fertile breeding ground in which talent can flourish and grow. In this way, we can give countless musicians a kickstart to a wonderful music career every season.

corporate friend

Corporate friends are very important to de Doelen. Thanks to their financial contribution, we can continue to organize high-quality concerts and cultural events, support talented artists and offer educational programs to a wide audience. In addition to the many individuals who are already friends, companies and organizations can also play a crucial role as corporate friends in increasing our cultural and social impact.

Corporate friends contribute €3,000 or €6,000 per year and thus invest directly in the future of music and de Doelen. In this way, as an organization, you not only give back to society, but you also connect your organization and people with special experiences, bring core values to life and increase the cultural relevance of your organization. In this way, we help each other further.
